EIGSI is a multi-disciplinary engineer school in which activities are developed on three ways, education, research and professional training. It is located both in La Rochelle on the south west coast of France and Casablanca (Morocco).Regarding EIGSI research, 2 application sectors are developed; the first deals with renewable energies and coastal protection, the second aims is transport, to improve intelligent and integrated mobility.
In each area, research projects are developed at European level (INTERREG Atlantic/SUDOE, CIVITAS, PCRD, IEE) or at national (Predit, ANR...) as well as with industrial partners large companies (PSA, SAFT, EADS, Alstom…) and with SMEs.
EIGSI is also involved in capitalisation projects, like TUNRKEY (knowledge capitalisation in renewable marine energies) and REPUTE (renewable energy in public transport).
Research in renewable energies and coastal protection
Renewable energies sector has been developed since 2002 along 2 main axes: the optimisation of the integration of multi sources of renewable energies and control and supervision of energy conversion.
Research application deals mainly with multi sources energies in urban areas, Methods and tools to improve energy efficiency in buildings and organisations and also Marine energies development.
For coastal protection, EIGSI has been leader of several French projects on 3D modelling of the behaviour of anti-pollution barriers like BAR3D and now leads the European project ISDAMP, (DGECHO, leader EIGSI, 2013-2016) Decision aid tool for design and implementation of booms, application in France, UK and Portugal
Research in transport, intelligent and integrated mobility
Research in transport started in 1993 on electric vehicles technologies with the first developments of new types of equipment to store energy.
Considering the local (La Rochelle Urban Community) and regional (Poitou-Charentes) demand and context, the research works turned to mobility problems linked to the small medium sized cities and both regional and inter-regional strategies on urban and/or land planning and development.
The main research works deal now with city logistics, Information systems for Mobility, Vehicle testing and Battery experimentation into project such as CLIMATLANTIC (strategies to reduce carbon footprint in AA-mobility pillar), COLIS URBAIN (City Logistics optimisation, following C Goods project) CITYMOBIL2 (real experimentation of vehicles operating without a driver in collective mode) and MOBICUS (battery modelling integrating operational and rest time of batteries).
