Merseyside’s £20 Million boost for Transport

Merseyside is to benefit from £19.99 million of central government money after Merseytravel and the five Merseyside Councils were successful in their bid into the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).

Bidding on behalf of the Merseyside Transport Partnership (MTP), Merseytravel had already secured £4.88 million in July 2011 from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund. The additional £19.99 million will enable the extension of the original schemes, and fund new schemes that will help individuals to travel to employment, and improve access to employment sites, which will support economic regeneration in Merseyside.
Among a raft of initiatives funded by the grant MTP, led by Merseytravel, will introduce
• Business Travel Support Advisors and Personalised Travel Planning to complement improvements on Quality Partnership bus routes services
• Develop Community Travel Hubs in areas such as Speke, Liverpool City Centre, East Wirral and Kirkby.
• Introduce Cycle Buddy schemes and Cycle Hire in Liverpool City Centre and a Liverpool Lime Street Cycle Hub.
• Develop facilities at key employment destinations for active travel users like Cycle Parking and changes to access arrangements
