Commission consults public on unconventional fossil fuels in Europe
The European Commission is holding a public consultation on the future development of unconventional fossil fuels such as shale gas in Europe. All interested individuals, organisations and public authorities are welcome to share their views on the possible opportunities and challenges that may arise from the development of such projects and on the best ways to address the challenges identified so far. The consultation is open until 20 March 2013. The consultation is available in all 23 EU languages.

New rules on cleaner fuels for shipping will deliver benefits for people's health
New environmental rules on marine fuels will substantially reduce air pollution and its impacts on human health. Air pollutants from maritime shipping are transported over long distances and as a result contribute increasingly to the air quality problems in many European cities.

New Maritime Agenda for growth and jobs adopted
A European agenda for creating growth and jobs in the marine and maritime sectors was adopted by European Ministers for maritime policy and the European Commission, represented by President Jose Manuel Barroso and Commissioner Maria Damanaki at a conference in Limassol organised by the Cypriot Presidency.

International Conference on the law of the sea
The aim of the conference is to celebrate the 30 years of signature of LOSC at the time of the Portuguese National Day of the Sea. This day was fixed on 16th November in order to honour the entry into force of LOSC (16th November 1994).
